Program Requirements

Program Duration

The normal duration to finish studying in the program is two years, with a maximum duration of three years, based on a decision from the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies and a recommendation from the Faculty of Information Technology.

Number of Credit-Hours

The minimum number of credit hours to complete the study is 36 academic hours distributed as follows:

Core Courses [18 credit hours]

  • Parallel and Distributed Computing (ICTS 6301)
  • Web Computing (ICTS 6306)
  • Advanced Software Engineering (ICTS 6302)
  • Scientific Research Methods (ICTS 6205)
  • Studies in Fiqh (SHAR 6203)
  • Information Security (ICTS 6303)
  • Analysis and design of advanced algorithms (ICTS 6204)

Elective Courses [12 credit hours]

  • (as referred in the academic plan)

Thesis [6 credit hours]

  • The thesis must meet the requirements described below.

Thesis proposal [with referenced literature]

It must be submitted before the end of the last working day of the eighth week of the first semester of the final year.

Presenting the proposal (as a seminar) to a committee consisting of the supervisor and another reviewer before the end of the working day of the tenth week of the first semester of the final year.

In case of non-approval, the student is given three-weeks as an opportunity to amend the proposal based on the committee's directions, otherwise it will be postponed for the following year.

Work Evaluation Report

It must be submitted before the end of the last working day of the first week of the second semester of the final year. A copy is also submitted to the supervisor and a progress report from the supervisor is submitted to the director of the postgraduate studies at the faculty.

Final Thesis

The final copy (four copies) of the thesis must be submitted for reviewing before the end of the last working day of the twelfth week of the second semester of the final year.

Thesis Review

The thesis is sent within a week of the student's submission to a maximum of three and at least two reviewers (one of the reviewers must be from the outside of the university). The review reports are received from the reviewers within three weeks of receiving the thesis.

Discussion or Modification

Based on the overall result of the reports received from the reviewers, the following is done:

  • Positive: The discussion session is decided within two weeks of receiving the latest reports.

  • Others: A committee from the faculty and the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies will make recommendations based on the results of the review (modification, extension).
