The faculty of Information Technology was established in 2004 in response to the needs of society, the steady scientific and technological development and to meet the need of the local and global market for qualified competencies.
With the entry of computers into various fields of life, there was a strong trend to establish the faculty of Information Technology to meet the local market’s need. The faculty currently includes several undergraduates’ departments such as: the Department of Computer Science, the Department of Information Technology, the Department of Software Development, the Department of Multimedia Technology and Web Development, and there are plans for new departments under study. In addition, the faculty offers postgraduate programs.
The faculty is developing its plans at a pace in line with scientific developments and the rapid scientific and technological development in the field of computing. There are permanent committees responsible of developing plans to advance the quality of programs.
The faculty of Information Technology seeks to provide the ingredients for the continuous development of education in technology to keep pace with the accelerating scientific and technological developments, raise the faculty graduates to the level of high competitiveness, and produce distinguished scientific research and studies.
The faculty’s mission stems from the university’s mission and its strategy which aim to meet the needs of society, response to the steady scientific and technological development, and meet the local and global market needs of qualified competencies.
The faculty aims to achieve the following objectives:
- To empower students’ skills to deal with computer technologies and to process information, its forms and various containers.
- To graduate qualified practitioners in the field of computing sciences and its applications.
- To link computer science and information technology with management science to deliver highly knowledgeable practitioners in information management, software and systems analysis.
The graduated students can work in fields related to:
- Organization and management.
- Planning and media.
- Projects implementation and study of different sectors.
- Preparing coordination programs between different sectors in government and private institutions.
- Issuing a scientific journal in the name of the faculty to attract the latest research and studies in the field of computer.
- Establishment of a specialized library for the faculty.
- Increasing the efficiency of the faculty’s computer laboratories.
- Expanding the field of training courses to meet the needs of different institutions.
- Working continuously to raise the competence of the faculty members.
- Contributing in the projects related to the advancement of society.
Through the effort made by the Deanship of the faculty in motivating the faculty members to develop themselves and raise their academic level by encouraging them to conduct academically distinguished research and obtain higher degrees, as well as encouraging the members who hold a master’s degree to obtain a doctorate.
Through holding advanced training courses for the administrative staff in the faculty. On the other hand, appointing laboratory supervisors with a high level of teaching to advance in the field of laboratory management, holding training courses for technicians in the faculty in the fields of safety and security, as well as in the field of using modern technologies and tools in their work in order to save time and effort.
